In this episode, Catherine and Rosa introduce an exciting new segment to the podcast review episodes. One of our focuses has been reviewing films through our Latina lens. And while we love reviewing the latest releases we want to bring retro reviews of the films that we grew up watching that don’t come up in our regular scheduled programming.
These will be older films that we watched growing up in our own cinephile journey and has informed the critics we are today! It’s going to be a fun ride and we hope you’ll enjoy these new podcast segments.
What better movie to start our retro reviews series than with “Top Gun” (1986)!
Directed by the late Tony Scott, the Top Gun Naval Fighter Weapons School is where the best of the best train to refine their elite flying skills. When hotshot fighter pilot Maverick (Tom Cruise) is sent to the school, his reckless attitude and cocky demeanor put him at odds with the other pilots, especially the cool and collected Iceman (Val Kilmer). But Maverick isn’t only competing to be the top fighter pilot, he’s also fighting for the attention of his beautiful flight instructor, Charlotte Blackwood (Kelly McGillis).
